Thesis Statement

People with mental illness have been categorized as being "the same" as everyone else so much that it has become overdone and created the opposite as a result. The stigma that consumes mental health is an issue that just another institution will not be able to avoid or eliminate. It is undeniable that we are afraid when walking past a mental facility or asylum. A negative connection is automatically created between mental health and the institutions in which it is treated.

Creating an environment that is much more integrated into the city results in a space that is more natural and comfortable to interact with.

Patients will no longer be alienated from the outside world to the point of creating a fear around them, where they can feel relaxed and free from the embarrassment one would commonly feel.

Creating a shared courtyard plays a key role in naturally blending the Centre with the public sector while also creating a passageway from College Street to Beverley Street.
